A Surgical Team at Saad Specialist Hospital Remove a Two-kilogram Weighing Tumor Conjoined to the Liver and the Duodenum.

A specialized medical team at Saad Specialist Hospital in Al Khobar performed a successful and rare surgery on a 53-year-old woman who suffered a tumor that weighed two kilograms, and which was so closely conjoined to the liver and the duodenum.
In a statement by Dr. Saud Al Mohamadi, liver and pancreas surgery consultant at Saad Specialist Hospital and head of the medical team that performed the operation, he stated that the results of the accurate medical checks and the cross-sectional images as well as the reports of the cells laboratories, it was clear that the tumor was caused by a nonmalignant  sacculation that pressed the lower part of the stomach and the upper digestive part of the abdomen. This pressure on the stomach, added Dr. Saud, caused the patient continuous nausea and inflation of the right pat of the abdomen.

Dr. Saud added that the medical team, which performed the surgery, agreed unanimously that the tumor had to be removed because it could have caused further complications to the organs it was conjoined to if it had not been removed. As a result, the tumor was immediately removed from the liver, the duodenum and the coronary artery, a procedure that was described as complicated.

The difficulty of the surgery was represented in two things: the first was the huge size of the tumor itself, which represented a difficulty in removing it without hurting the main arteries of the liver. The second challenge was that the tumor was so closely conjoined to the lower lobe of the liver, the coronary artery that fed the liver and the duodenum.
Dr. Al Mohamadi asserted that the periodical medical examinations of the patient after the surgery proved that the symptoms that the patient had suffered before the surgery were over. Moreover, the patient, now, enjoys good health and is able to carry out her daily life activities.
It is noteworthy that Saad Specialist Hospital implements a number of state-of-the-art techniques in the surgeries of liver and pancreas, which enable the surgeons to carry out complicated surgeries including complete excision of big tumors that are closely conjoined to the liver. In such cases a surgical endoscope is used to assess the size and depth of the tumor as well as determining the possibility of removing some of the complicated tumors. In addition to this technological excellence, Saad Specialist Hospital employs excellent specialized human and technical capacities to perform such surgeries.
